Erika is unique among our readers in that she uses what is known as the Lenormand deck. Together with her Reiki training, her pastoral counseling experience, and her open heart, Erika’s intention is that her clients will feel guided to a truer understanding of themselves and their place in this wonderful world.
Although her life has been an interesting blend of the conventional and the unconventional, nothing has surprised or delighted Erika Robinson more than discovering her ability to bring comfort and counsel to others through her reading of the Lenormand cards. East Harlem raised and Harvard educated, Erika believed herself destined for the Episcopal priesthood, until it became clear that this path was not broad enough for her to express all of who she is in the world. Upon receiving a Masters of Divinity degree, Erika taught and was Coordinator of Minority Recruitment at the elite Saint Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire. This tenure was followed by stints as Assistant Director of Admissions at Princeton University and at Columbia University.
Marriage and two children led Erika to decide a change of career was in order, and she became an English teacher at Red Bank Regional High School, where she has taught everything from remedial English to Advanced Placement Language and Composition for the past twenty-five years. Upon the sudden death of her husband six years ago, Erika experienced a series of events that no amount of Ivy League education, no number of years in the classroom could explain.
Mystical in nature, these events confirmed what Erika had suspected all along: that the veil between worlds is thin, and that the beautiful, mathematical symmetry of the Universe is meant for our highest good. This confirmation led Erika to begin an exploration of energy, and she has since become a Reiki Master who has used the gift of Reiki daily with both students and colleagues who ask for such help. In recent years, Erika has used Reiki to calm and support members of the school community during times of great tragedy and grief, and now she is known throughout the building as “that teacher with the healing hands.”
Words have been an even stronger healing tool for Erika, and she has used literature to demonstrate to her students that there is wisdom in books that can act as a blueprint for how to live life victoriously. As an Earth Spirit fan, Erika attended classes in Astrology and Tarot at the store, and discovered that, just as learning foreign languages expands one’s understanding of the world and its people, the language of the esoteric arts expands one’s understanding of one’s place in the cosmos, one’s purpose in this life. Erika feels specifically drawn to the language of the Lenormand cards, because of their tendency to deliver grounded, practical advice in a rich and lyrical style.
As a person of mixed race, Erika has often acted as a bridge between cultures, a translator of experience from one group to another. Having studied French, Spanish, and Latin extensively, Erika has added the language of the Lenormand to her repertoire, a language that requires one to listen as much with the heart as with the ears; a language that conveys all we know at our soul’s core already, but have forgotten how to access. Together with her Reiki training, her pastoral counseling experience, and her open heart, Erika’s intention is that her clients will feel guided to a truer understanding of themselves and their place in this wonderful world.
